Lady Bird Lake
I thought I would post a picture of Austin's Lady Bird Lake (formerly known as Town Lake).
Last year, the Austin City Council renamed the lake from Town Lake to Lady Bird Lake.
Lady Bird Johnson passed away on July 11, 2007.

Daniel Johnston's Hi, How Are You
If you've ever been in Austin and found yourself lost on the UT drag, chances are you have seen this frog. At which point, you probably really freaked out and thought you'd never see the light of day--especially with the numerous drag rats roaming around the area--or you may have smiled and felt comfortable in the city whose slogan is "Keep Austin Weird."
The mural was drawn by Daniel Johnston in the early 90s on the wall of what was once Sound Exchange.

Baby Acapulco, North Austin
Rating: 3 ½ out of 5 stars
Baby Acapulco
13609 North I35
Austin, TX 78751
512-670-9111

Baby Acapulco, also known as Baby A’s, was the first place I’ve ever drank a purple margarita, and believe me, I barely remember finishing the second drink. Of course, this was about 10 years ago, when I was new to Austin and quite young. Back then, my friends and I would meet at Baby A’s for happy hour before heading to Austin’s Sixth Street.
Although Baby A’s is known for its drinks, the restaurant does offer good Tex-Mex food at reasonable prices. For less than ten dollars, you can get the Baby A’s Burrito or the Chicken Enchiladas lunch special. If visiting for dinner, try their Sizzling Fajitas. Kids’ menu items are less than four dollars and include a free drink.
Because there are several hundred Tex-Mex restaurants in the Austin metropolitan area, it is extremely hard to classify one particular restaurant as the best. However, Baby A’s would probably rank top 20 in Tex-Mex food and top 10 in drinks and entertainment.
The chips are crisp and the salsa taste fresh; however, their flour tortillas are not the best.

El Mercado Restaurant on Burnet Road
Rating 3 1/2 out of 5 stars
El Mercado Restaurant
7414 Burnet Road
Austin, TX 78757
512-454-2500
First of all, any Mexican restaurant north of the San Antonio River should not be considered real Mexican food. What El Mercado does offer is one of the best Tex-Mex food in Austin.
Customers visiting El Mercado can choose from a variety of Tex-Mex foods and select from a good list of local and imported beers and drinks. The chips are quite good and crisp; although, I wonder if they recycle them. Many other Tex-Mex restaurants recycle their chips throughout the day; that probably explains why some chips are soggy than others.
Regardless, El Mercado on Burnet Road, which is located between West Anderson Lane and Allendale Road, provides prompt service, good food, and great salsa.
Best time to visit El Mercado is for Saturday or Sunday breakfast. Order the migas or the vegetarian breakfast. Or you can do what my wife and I do and order both and share.

Eeyore's Birthday at Pease Park
Yesterday, hippie Austinites celebrated Eeyore's birthday at Pease Park. This day long festival has been an Austin tradition since 1963. It was started by a UT professor in recognition of A.A. Milne's depressive donkey character, Eeyore.
